This 11-hectare estate was founded by Polish emigree Jean Heresztyn in 1932 and is to be found in the heart of the village of Gevrey-Chambertin in the Cotes de Nuits. Jean began by growing onions but ended up working for several domaines in the region including Trapet and Gelin. Today the estate is run by Stanislas, Bernard, Eva and Chantal Heresztyn, brothers and sister in laws, with Stanislas's daughter Florence taking an increasingly firm grip of the reins. Their holdings include a number of Gevrey Premiers Crus including Les Goulots, and La Perrière, plus a greatly admired Morey St-Denis Premier Cru Les Millandes. This vibrant red is from vines grown on east-facing hills composed of stone and gravel which ensures excellent drainage and adds to the minerality of the wine. It is aged for 18 months in oak barrels of which 30% is new.

A bright garnet-red in the glass. Complex aromas suggesting violet, black cherry and damp earth. On the palate, silky and refined with subtle tannins and a velvety mouthfeel. Lovely balance between texture and acidity. Lingering finish with notes of cherry and candied fruit. Drinking now or can be cellared for a further 5-7 years. Rich yet subtle game dishes are called for here, such as roast saddle of hare or roast pigeon. Great also with Reblochon cheese.
