This 12 hectare estate lies in Sant'Antonio di Canelli, within the region of Serra Masio in Piemonte and is run by brother and sister, Gian Lugi and Allessandera Bera. The family have been making wine on the estate since 1785 when the Bera's ancestors bought a plot of land from the Knights of Malta, and the estate was one of the first in the Canelli region to bottle its own wines. Everything is organic on the farm (certification was granted in 2000) and the grapes are hand-harvested. Only natural yeasts are used in the cellar and no additional sulphur is employed. This particular Barbera is from 50 year old vines and spends 24 months on its lees before bottling.

A deep purple-black in colour. Aromas of red summer fruits and cherries with hints of nutmeg. On the palate medium-bodied yet rich in texture with low tannins and a pronounced acidity making this a great food wine. Try with Barbera-braised veal shank, corzetti pasta with sausage ragu or an anchovy, green bean and almond salad.
