The Trinchero estate is located in the hamlet of Vianoce in the Asti region of Piemonte and has been making superb Barberas since 1920. Today the winery is run by brothers Renato and Ezio Trinchera along organic lines and they continue to produce superb and long-lived wines from old vines that give up low yields but of excellent quality. This straight Barbera d'Asti is made from 20 year old vines and is designed to be drunk young. Fermented in cement vats, the wine is aged in oak barrels for 12 months before bottling. With its juicy acidity, this makes for a great food wine, particularly with poultry dishes.

A cherry-red in colour. Notes of raspberry, mulberry and balsam on the nose. Medium-bodied on the palate with lively acidity. Bags of red fruit flavour. Notes of red cherries and liquorice. The finish is crisp and elegant. Try with chicken alla potentina with basil, Pecorino cheese and tomatoes, seared duck breasts in a sour cherry sauce or rigatoni with Swiss chard and caramelised onions.
