The Winery of Good Hope is a large producer that also encompasses 3 leading producers from the Stellenbosch region of South Africa - Vinum, Radford Dale and Black Rock. The vineyards are situated in 2 parcels - on the Helderberg Mountain and in the Devon Valley. This well-balanced red comes from Helderberg and the grapes are selected from several vineyards totalling 14 hectares in all. The grapes are grown at high altitude and are hand harvested. The Cabernet Sauvignon provides ripe tannins and depth, while the Merlot contributes a softer, fruiter element to the blend. It is unoaked.
A delightful crimson-red in colour. Complex aromas of blackberry, morello cherry and sweet spices. On the palate, round and supple with excellent acidity. Further black fruit notes with lively yet balanced tannins lead to a lingering finish. A great Sunday lunch wine. Pair with entrecôte steak and a shallot purée, beef tournedos with wild mushrooms or pigeons aux petits pois (with green peas, baby onions and bacon).
