The Sokol Blosser estate was founded by Bill and Susan Sokol Blosser in 1971 in the Dundee Hills of Oregon, some 30 miles south west of Portland on America's west coast. They spent the following 6 years renovating and improving the vineyards and cellar and their first vintage was released in 1977. The 85 hectares of vineyards are farmed organically and the insect population is kept in check by a resident flock of bluebirds. The underground barrel cellar became the first winery in the country to earn the prestigious ' Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design' certification. Although Pinot Noir is the main grape grown, plantings of Pinot Gris, Muller-Thurgau, Syrah and Zinfandel have also been made. This particular red comes from 15 year-old Pinot Noir vines grown in the remarkable red soils of Yamhill County's Dundee Hills and spends 16 months in French oak barrels.

A bright cherry red in the glass. Scents of redcurrant and cranberry with smokey hints. On the palate, medium-bodied yet complex with warm, earthy notes and subtle tannins leading to a pleasantly tart finish. Drink now or keep for a further 5-7 years. Great with roast pork with a cranberry glaze, grilled salmon with a honey, mustard and brown sugar glaze or risotto with stewed tomatoes and Taleggio cheese.
