Si Vintners was founded in 2010 by Sarah Morris and her husband, Iwo Jakimowicz - both experienced wine makers - who purchased the estate after discovering it by chance during an afternoon drive through Rosa Glen, just south of the Margaret River in Western Australia. There are 20 hectares under vine, the majority of which were planted in 1978, making them some of the oldest vineyards in the region. Within a year they had converted to organics and ttoday they are strictly biodynamic using minimal additional sulphur and naturally occurring yeasts. All their wine is bottles without fining or filtration. Si red is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Petit Verdot and is naturally fermented, basket-pressed and then left to age in a mixture of concrete, stainless steel and oak.
A deep garnet-red in the glass. Heady aromas of liquorice, cloves, plums and chocolate. On the palate, smooth and mellow with grippy tannins leading to a lingering and spicy finish. Drink with roast pork loin studded with garlic, sautéed veal kidneys with wild mushrooms or a chunk of Manchego cheese.
