The estate is the brainchild of Aussie Ben Radford and Brit Alex Dale who crossed paths in Burgundy and later in South Africa. They eventually set up the Radford Dale estate in 1998 in the Stellenbosch region of South Africa. Ben returned to the Barossa Valley but Alex remains to continue the tradition of producing excellent wines from vineyards located in the Devon Valley (3ha) and Helderberg Mountain (4ha). This particular Chardonnay comes from 2 parcels of twenty year-old vines planted on ocean-facing slopes of the afore-mentioned Helderberg Mountain. The grapes are handpicked and fermentation takes place in used French oak barrels for 10 weeks. The wine then spends a further 11 months in barrel before bottling. Being old oak barrels, the tannins are balanced and discreet.

A pale yellow-green in the glass. Tropical fruit aromas with notes of butter, nuts and butterscotch. On the palate, soft and fresh with balanced acidity and tannins. Flavours of apple, nectarine and peach leading to a lingering finish. Drink with seabass and fennel purée, salmon fishcakes or a mild lamb, sweet potato and coconut curry.
