This organic white is made by Pierre Luneau Papin at Domaine du Verger situated at Le Landreau in the Western Loire, 20km south east of Nantes, and is made from the Folle Blanche grape - a close relative of Languedoc's Picpoul and the grape traditionally used in the making of Cognac. The vines are grown on light stony schist around the village of Le Landreau which not only give the wine a mineral, slightly salty aspect but also the capacity to age. This lower alcohol white (11%) has bright acidity and makes for a great food wine.
A clear, bright lemon yellow in colour with aromas of citrus fruits and white flowers. On the palate clean and crisp with pleasantly tart notes. The acidity is pronounced and the finish short and refreshing. Try with a tuna steak pan-fried in butter and lemon, fried squid with garlic, lemon and olive oil or a slice of Crottin de Chavignol goat's cheese.
