This acclaimed domaine was founded by Henri Bourgeois in 1950 in Chavignol - a village better known for its goat's cheese - Crottin de Chavignol - than its wines. Originally consisting of 2 hectares, the estate now has almost 70 and is run by the energetic Jean-Marie Bourgeois who has transformed the estate into one of the most important producers/negociants in Sancerre. There is also an estate in the Marlborough region of New Zealand where a range of superb Sauvignon Blancs and Pinot Noirs are produced. In addition to its Sancerre, the Chavignol operation also produces some excellent Pouilly-Fume and Quincy wines, and this delightful saignée rosé made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes. Refreshing and fruity, this makes for great drinking with Thai cuisine.

A delightful salmon-pink in colour. On the nose, scents of summer red berries with a touch of pear and tangerine. On the palate, medium-bodied and dry with a balanced acidity. Flavours of soft red fruits with a leafy edge. The finish is crisp and slightly spicy. Try with rainbow trout marinated in ginger and lime, the notoriously hard-to-match Pad Thai or fricassée of chicken and clams with morel mushrooms.
