Hacienda Grimon is based at the foot of the Monte Grimón mountain range (hence the name) in the village of Ventas Blancas in the district of Lagunilla de Jubera, 15 minutes from the Rioja provincial capital of Logroño. The current bodega was constructed in 1999 over the grandparent's old family house and their first vintage of the Grimón wines was in 2002. Owned and run by the Olivan family, this 25-hectare bodega lies well hidden in the little-known Valle de Jubera. Viticulture is organic with no use of herbicides and pesticides and sheep manure is used as fertilizer. Hand harvesting is employed for all their vineyards. Great care is taken to provide the healthiest grapes of the highest quality, as nearly all the wines will experience extended ageing. In addition, all Grimon`s wines are made from their own grapes, a rarity in La Rioja. This juicy red is 100% Tempranillo and lightly oaked.
A bright crimson in the glass. The nose is redolent of redcurrant, cherry and blueberry aromas with a touch of pepper. The palate is intense and juicy with flavours of creamy red fruits. Great acidity and a lingering finish makes this a great food wine. Great with lamb stew with sweet red peppers, fusilli pasta with a wild mushroom and red wine sauce or Madrid-style beef stew with veal, thyme and green peppers.
