The Felton Road Winery is located in Bannockburn, Central Otago, the most southerly wine growing-region in the world but of a similar latitude to some of the great wine regions of France. The area has its own microclimate which brings low rainfall and high sunshine hours with the threat of occasional frosts, but ideal conditions for the cultivation of the Pinot Noir grape. The estate is run along biodynamic lines and harvesting is carried out by hand. In the cellar the wine is racked by a gravity system thereby disturbing the juice as little as possible. Wild yeasts are used and the wine is aged in Burgundian oak barrels. This particular Pinot Noir is a superb product of its terroir, full of aromatic fruit and wild herbs.
A medium ruby in the glass. Complex, toasty nose of red cherries, tomato, smoke and vanilla. Medium-bodied on the palate with delicious red cherry flavours and a hint of spice and mint. Rich and supple in texture with a lingering, velvety finish. Delcicious! Drink with coq au vin, sauteed lamb's kidneys in a mustard sauce or hare terrine.
