This juicy Carmenere is made by by Denis Duveau, consultant Oenologue from Saumur, and Antoine Toublanc, a resident of Santiago. In 1991 Duveau sold his Loire estate to Thierry Germain of Domaine des Roches Neuves and set up as a consultant operating in France and South America. In 2002 he set up his own wine distribution company in Santiago, buying and distributing many of the wines from the estates he advised. This led to the formation in 2006 of the La Poda Corta estate in association with Toublanc and Denis' son, Gregoire, who oversees the 45 hectares of vines planted in the Curico Valley. In addition to 20 hectares of Carmenere there are also plantings of Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. This plummy Carmenere is from vines grown at 450 metres above sea level and see no oak.

A dark cherry-red in colour. Expressive nose of blackcurrant, liquorice and eucalyptus. A nicely balanced, medium-bodied palate with subtle tannins and a ripe mouthfeel. The finish is concentrated suggesting further spicy notes. Try with Catalan bean and sausage stew with mint, paprika, tomatoes, and Chorizo, Churrasco con Pebre (grilled beef tenderloin with a coriander sauce) or a Tadka Dahl made with red lentils.
