Domaine Ponsot was founded in 1954 by Lucien Ponsot and is situated in the village of Rully, just a few miles south of the Cote d'Or. There 8.5 hectares in all with holdings in three of Rully's 1er Cru - Molesme, Montpalais, and La Fosse. In addition Ponsot farms 2.8 hectares in the En Bas de Vauvry Monopole as well as another 0.5 ha in "Rully Village" vineyards. The estate is currently run by Jean-Baptiste Ponsot who took over in 2000. Everything is organic on the farm, the grapes are hand-harvested, no chemicals are used and only natural yeasts are employed in the cellar. After a brief cold-settling, the grapes for 'Montpalais' go into a variety of oak barrels. This delicate and perfumed white would make a great accompaniment to a variety of fish dishes in particular.
A light gold in colour. Scents of citrus fruits and apple. On the palate, fresh yet rich with a creamy core and forward acidity. The tannins are discreet and the finish zesty. Try with escargots de Bourgogne, chicken liver salad or bream fillets with porcini mushrooms.
