Another superb biodynamic wine from the fashionable estate of Didier Barral based at Lentheric in the rapidly-improving appellation of Faugeres. The estate is run strictly according to biodynamic principles and it is this non-interventionist approach that makes Didier's wines some of the most sought-after in southern France; indeed the estate has recently been voted one of the top 50 independents in the world. The Faugeres Tradition is a blend of Syrah, Mourvedre Carignan, Grenache and Cinsault from vines aged between 40-70 years and is concentrated yet aromatic with excellent acidity.
A deep ruby-red in the glass. Aromas of cherry, damson fruit and violet leading to a concentrated palate packed with flavours of cassis and wild strawberry with peppery notes. The finish is lengthy with ripe tannins. Altogether a beautifully balanced and focused wine. Drink with roast pheasant wrapped in parma ham and served with leeks and lentils, casserole of duck with peaches or a dish of roasted beets with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
