Domaine la Garrigue is a large (145 hectares) estate situated in the village of Vacqueyras itself and has been in the Bernard family since 1850. The vines are cultivated strictly according to organic principles and are also grown in the neighbouring village of Sarrians. The Bernard family also own one of the most well-known restaurants in the region - 'Les Florets' - to be found in the village of Gigondas. Only 1,000 cases of this superb red are made and therefore it is highly sought-after. A blend of 80% Grenache with the balance being made up of Syrah and Mourvedre, this is a typically peppery red from the area and is neither filtered nor fined before bottling.
A deep purple in colour with scents of red fruits, herbs de Provence and black pepper. The palate is chewy in texture with flavours of sweet cherries and spice. The finish is lingering and fresh. The overall impression is one of rusticity - to be expected from such an artisanal wine. Serve with tournedos steaks with wild mushrooms, lamb chops with creamed onions or venison stew with juniper berries and cream.
