The estate is situated in Beaumes de Venise, to the east of the town of Chateauneuf du Pape, and is owned by Guy Jullien and his wife Michele who took over from Guy's father in 1979, who himself had founded the estate in 1964. The 22 hectares of vineyards are planted in the shadow of the Dentelles de Montmirail at an alititude of 600 metres above sea level. The estate was certified fully organic in 1998. Romanins is a blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah from old vines and the wine is fermented using only naturally occurring yeasts. It is neither filtered nor fined.
A clear garnet-red in colour. Scents of black cherries, dark chocolate and liquorice. On the palate, robust and savoury with a touch of spice. the finish is lengthy and the tannins balanced. Try with lamb stew with Swiss chard and garlic toast, daube of beef with spiced beetroot or pancake rolls stuffed with red cabbage and wild mushrooms.
