Domaine de la Pepiere is situated near Muscadet in the Loire Valley and is run by Marc Ollivier who purchased the estate in 1984. The domaine's name derives from the French word for thirst (pépie) and Marc's remarkable wines certainly quench the thirst. There are 28 hectares in total and everything is carried out strictly according to biodynamic practices. The vines are planted on granitic soil interlaced with plenty of silica which enhances the freshness of the wines. This particular red is made from Malbec grapes (aka ‘Cot’ in the Loire Valley) and Merlot and is fresh and easy going. Chill in the summer with fish.

A vibrant cherry-red in colour. Aromas of blackcurrants, raspberries and plums. In the mouth,  light and soft with a refreshing acidity leading to a spicy finish and further flavours of redcurrants and green herbs. This is not a 'keeper' and needs drinking within a couple of years, but it makes for a great food wine with grilled perch with fennel, noisettes of pork with prunes or a bacon, potato and sorrel omelette.
