Domaine de la Garreliere resides just outside the town of Richelieu in Loire's Touraine region. During Cardinal Richelieu's heyday in the 1630s, the town supplied his court with wine and in the late 19th century the vineyards were considerably more extensive than they are today, but were abandoned with the onslaught of phylloxera. It wasn't until the 1970s, when Pascale and François Plouzeau founded Domaine de la Garrelière, that the historic viticulture was resurrected. Today this 20-hectare domaine is one of Touraine's leading biodynamically-farmed domaines. Francois and Pascale are passionate about biodynamic agriculture and the grapes are hand-harvested in late October for optimal ripeness. Yields are exceptionally low and very little sulphur is used in the cave. Named after the local cherry dogwood tree, this 100% Cabernet Franc is spicy and savoury.

A deep cherry red in colour. On the nose, classic Cab Franc aromas of bell pepper, raspberry and liquorice. On the palate, medium bodied and smooth with a pronounced acidity and soft tannins. Look for flavours of plums and blueberries leading to a juicy finish. Try with saute of chicken with wild mushrooms and onions, veal roasted with sorrel or duck with apple fritters.
