The history of Domaine de Chapoton goes back to the reign of Louis X1V although the wines of the region have been know since Roman times. The current owners are Annika and Serge Remusan who took over the estate in 1981, adding a somewhat piece-meal winery and considerable savoir faire. Today the estate has 60 hectares spread over 4 villages and makes some of the finest wines in the region, exploiting the limestone terroir of the hillside of the Massif d'Uchaux to make expressive and elegant reds and whites. This excellent CDR comes from vines surrounding the the beautiful village of Cairanne and is a blend of Grenache and Syrah and is unoaked.
A deep cherry-red in colour. Aromas of ripe black berries and tropical fruits. On the palate, fresh and peppery with notes of dried sweet spices and liquorice. The finish is lingering and spicy. Great with wild boar stew, cod fillets with fennel bulbs, anchovies and balsamic vinegar or a plate of roasted ratatouille.
