Collioure is a pretty fishing village situated just north of the Spanish border on the Mediterranean coast of southern France and is part of France's most southerly AOC. This particular red is from the ambitious Domaine Cazes and is a heady combination of 90% Mourvedre and 10% Syrah grapes and is a firm favourite with our shop customers. Sometimes referred to as Banyuls sec, this is a rare and intense wine with plenty of over-ripe fruit flavours that work particularly well with red fruit desserts.
A dark purple-red in colour. Warm, smoky aromas of redcurrants and black cherries with notes of green herbs and vanilla. On the palate dry and well-structured with excellent acidity and firm tannins. The finish is long and spicy backed up by further red fruit flavours. Try with braised venison in a chocolate sauce, summer pudding or a bleu d'Auvergne cheese. Superb!
