The 26-hectare Domaine Berthoumieu is run by Didier Barre and is situated in the village of Viella in the northern Madiran region of southwest France. The estate has been in the family since 1850 and Didier is one of the leading makers in the region, his wines expressing the notion of terroir to perfection. Constance is an unoaked blend of Tannat, Cabernet Sauvignon and the indigenous Fer Servadou grape from old vines and is packed with forward and rustic aromas.
Great depth of colour in the glass, almost black. Earthy scents of blackcurrants, prunes, liquorice and coffee. Complex layers of black fruit flavours with notes of mint and herbs all underpinned by forward tannins and excellent acidity. Excellent with food, particularly cassoulet, coq au vin or wild boar with wild mushrooms.
