The de Martino Family have been making wine in Chile's famed Maipo Valley for over 70 years and their vineyards are situated at altitudes of up to 825m above sea level, yet only 30 miles from the Pacific Ocean. The soils are made up of clay, sand and volcanic rock which in turn imparts a very distinct character to the wines. This particular Syrah comes from vines grown in the arid Choapa Valley some 250 miles north of Santiago and is raised in stainless steel tanks. Fresh and balanced, this pairs excellently with roast beef.
A dark ruby in colour. Aromas of cassis, liquorice with a touch of smokiness. On the palate, medium to full bodied with further black fruit notes. The tannins are suubtle and the acidity beautifully balanced leading to a lingering finish. Great with empanadas of pork, raisins and black olives, Ajiaco (beef & pepper stew) or a Chilean bean stew with dobladitas (flatbreads).
