'Comando G' comprises of 3 wine makers (Fernando García, Daniel Gómez Jiménez-Landi and Marc Isart) who met at university in 2005 and who share a passion for old vine Garnacha. They started their business in 2010 by developing two wines from 60-90 year old Garnacha vines situated in the remote Sierra de Gredos between the provinces of Madrid and Avila. There are 10 hectares of vines spread out among the villages of Cadalso de los Vidrios and Rozas de Puerto Real, all situated on granite soil at an altitude of between 900 and 1,000 metres and everything is carried out strictly according to biodynamic principles. La Bruja de Rozas ('The Witch of Rozas') is sourced from several vineyards in the vicinity of Las Rozas de Puerto Real. The grapes are fermented and aged separately in wooden vats, using native yeasts. Ageing takes place in French oak barrels over a total of five months and only 5,000 bottles are made. Elegant and fresh, this makes for great summer red.
A vibrant cherry-red in colour. Scents of violets, balsamic herbs and sweet spices. On the palate, medium-bodied with beautifully balanced tannins and a fine thread of acidity. There is a pronounced mineral backbone to the wine and the finish has a touch of spice. Try with red peppers stuffed with tuna, braised lamb with prunes and pine nuts or chicken with Catalan picada (a sauce of nuts, herbs and garlic).
