Clos Lapeyre is situated in the Jurançon region of south west France, between Pau and Biarritz and was founded in 1920 by Jean Larrieu. Initially run as a strawberry farm, the estate is now run by Jean's grandson, Jean-Bernard, who took over in 1985 and replanted the entire estate with vines. The 12 hectares of vines are cultivated strictly according to organic principles and face south towards the Pic-du-Midi, an aspect which provides a modicum of protection from strong winds and plenty of sunshine during the summer months. 'La Magendia' means 'the best' in ancient Occitan and is made of late-harvested botrytised Petit Manseng grapes. The wine is fermented in oak barrels for up to 18 months. producing an exotic, unctuous dessert wine that make for a great summer aperitif.

A golden straw in colour. Scents of dried apricot, peach and vanilla. Medium-bodied on the palate with a 'fat' texture leading to tropical fruit flavours that are balanced by spicy wood notes. The finish is lengthy and clean. Great with a half-dozen salty oysters (à la Chateau Yquem), pan-fried pork tenderloin with a spicy habanero sauce or a fresh fig and goat's cheese strudel.
