Clos Lapeyre is situated in the Jurançon region of south west France, between Pau and Biarritz and was founded in 1920 by Jean Larrieu. Initially run as a strawberry farm, the estate is now run by Jean's grandson, Jean-Bernard, who took over in 1985 and replanted the entire estate with vines. The 12 hectares of vines are cultivated strictly according to organic principles and face south towards the Pic-du-Midi, an aspect which provides a modicum of protection from strong winds and plenty of sunshine during the summer months. Evidencia is a blend of equal parts Gros Manseng, Petit Manseng and Courbu which are fermented separately before being aged together in oak vats. No additional sulphur is used and the wine is not filtered.
A delightful straw-gold in colour. On the nose, notes of peaches, pears and green apples. On the palate, dry with further orchard fruit flavours leading to a honeyed finish. The forward acidity makes for a great food wine. Try with lentil and foie gras salad, Basque fish soup with peppers or aubergines stuffed with tomatoes, breadcrumbs, garlic and parsley.
