The Ciello Winery was founded in Marsala in 1860 by Don Diego Rallo, although today the estate is run by the Vesco family who took over in 1996. There are 100 organic hectares in total, all of which are in the DOCG of Alcamo, while the cellars are situated in an impressive 19th century building on Marsala's seafront. The company produces perhaps the best-known DOC wines of the region from local indigenous grapes including Nero d'Avola and Catarratto as well as excellent wines from international grape varieties such as Merlot and Chardonnay. This floral and aromatic white is made from the afore-mentioned Catarratto grape and is unoaked.
A pale golden in the glass. Aromas of lemon zest, orange and citrus blossom. On the palate, medium-bodied and fresh with hints of almonds and a touch of salinity. The finish is crisp and suggests sweet spices and tropical fruits. Great with pasta con la sarda with anchovies, sardines and wild fennel, sardines stuffed with pine nuts and raisins or Frittedda Siciliana, a vegetable stew to include broad beans, peas and artichokes.
