The 52-hectare Chateau Tour des Gendres was founded 1925 and is situated at Ribagnac near Bergerac. The estate is run along organic and biodynamic lines (certified 2005) by the 3 rd generation of the Conti family led by head winemaker, Luc de Conti. The hallmarks of the estate's wines are balance, power and freshness from vines grown on a mixture of limestone and clay soils. No additional sulphites are used and the wines are unfiltered. The estate's Bergerac blanc is largely Semillon with 20% Muscadelle and is minerally and fresh. To be drunk now as an aperitif or with fish or seafood.
Golden yellow in colour with a hint of green. Classic Semillon aromas of honey and lemon with notes of acacia and grass. Creamy and waxy in texture. On the palate broad and open flavours of apricots, peaches and candied peel with a hint of marzipan and truffle. Well balanced with a subtle acidity. Serve with sautéed scallops, a warm seafood salad with chillis and watercress or good old fish and chips!
