The 40 hectares of Chateau Mourgues du Gres are situated at Beaucaire in the Costieres de Nimes on the Cotes-du-Rhone/Languedoc border. The estate is owned and run by Francois Collard, a former journalist who turned to wine making after inheriting the estate from his father in 1994 and having trained at Chateau Lafite-Rothschild for six months. His wines are now among the best in the region. 'Terre d'Argence' blanc is a blend of Viognier and Roussanne, of which a small proportion is oaked. Ample and generous, this makes for a great aperitif.
A clear pale yellow in colour with green flecks. Intense aromas of apricot and peach with hints of white flowers. Floral and fruity on the palate with a 'waxy' mouthfeel. The finish is lengthy with mineral notes. Try with chicken with morels and cream, blanquette de veau or a chunk of Livarot cheese.
