Former journalist Francois Collard, proprietor of the 40-hectare Chateau Mourgues du Gres in the Costiere de Nimes, trained at Chateau Lafite-Rothschild and makes arguably the best wines in the region. This particular unoaked red is from the easy-drinking 'Galets' range and is designed to be drunk young. A supple and expressive combination of Syrah and Grenache with a touch of Carignan, this makes for a good food wine. Particularly suited to earthy, rustic dishes.

Dark ruby-red in colour. On the nose scents of kirsch, figs and herbes de Provence. Very smooth in texture with ripe flavours of cherries and raspberries backed up by a nice long tannic finish. Almost Chateauneuf-like in character. Drink with braised artichoke hearts, lamb chops sauteed with herbes de Provence or wild boar in a red wine casserole.
