Chateau Monregard la Croix is part of the Bourotte family empire which has been producing wine for many decades in Libournais. They have seven chateaux altogether within a 25km radius of Libourne and the company is run by Pierre Bourotte with the assistance of his son, Jean-Baptiste. The vineyards are located on the right bank of the Garonne River in Libournais and the soil varies from clay-calcareous to gravel, through blue clay and iron pan. The very expressive Monregard la Croix is from a tiny 1.5 hectare vineyard planted with 25 year-old delimited Merlot (90%) and Cabernet Franc (10%) vines. After fermentation in concrete vats, the wine is aged in a combination of new and used oak barrels for 20 months. Only 9,000 bottles are produced so availability is necessarily limited.

A dark purple in colour. Fragrant aromas of liquorice, coffee and plummy red fruits. On the palate, medium-bodied and ripe with supple cherry fruit flavours and a juicy texture. The tannins are firm and the finish lingering. Great with roast turkey and all the trimmings. Otherwise try with a rustic bean soup with chorizo or rabbit and prune casserole.
