This fresh and vibrant white comes from the Dao region of northern Portugal, an area that in the past never quite lived up to its promise as due to government regulation, private wineries were compelled to buy finished wine from 10 cooperatives scattered throughout the region. This system was finally scrapped in 1989 with Portugal's entry into the EU and since then a winemaking revolution has occurred in Dao as young winemakers bring new techniques to the native Portugese varieties. Owner Joao Pedro Araujo of Casa de Cello has teamed up with star winemaker Pedro Anselma to create the Quinta Sanjoanne range of reds and whites including this excellent Vinho Verde made from a blend of Avesso and Loureiro grapes whose vines are situated in the Lima sub-region of Vinho Verde.

A crystalline pale-green in the glass. Refined and elegant floral aromas of citrus and tropical fruits on the nose. On the palate, complex and smooth with a lingering acidity and refreshing minerality leading to a crisp finish. Great with grilled mackerel, clams with bacon and garlic or roasted sardines with cherry tomatoes.
