The organic Cantina Iuli is run by Fabrizio Iuli and is located near Asti in the heart of the Monteferrato region of Piemonte. The vineyards are situated in Lower Monteferrato around the villages of Cerrina and Sala Monteferrato, and instead of having the luxury of a single parcel of vineyards around the cellar, Fabrizio cultivates no less than 18 sites all with varying terroirs and microclimates, but all sharing the same calcareous and clay soils upon which the Barbera grapes, from which this particular red is made, thrive. Made from 100% Barbera, it spends 10 months in stainless steel tanks and undergoes no fining or filtration before bottling.
A delightful medium-ruby in the glass. Scents of dark plums and autumnal fruits with hints of leather. On the palate, medium-bodied and plump with fine tannins and a pronounced acidity. Surprisingly fresh with a lingering finish. Try with slat-crusted rib of beef, roast duck or vitello tonato.
