The excellent estate of La Casada is based at Caleo in the Puglia region of southern Italy and this particular red is made predominantly from the Negroamaro grape from vineyards situated in the southern part of Apulia (the heel of Italy's boot) where the grape has been cultivated since the 6th Century. In addition to the Negroamaro, 20% Malvasia Nera is added for fruitiness and the blend is oaked for 6 months in small oak barrels before bottling.
A dark garnet-red in colour. Aromas of jammy red fruits and vanilla provided by the oak. Dense and chewy on the palate with further sun-ripened Mediterranean fruit flavours, the finish is lingering and spicy. Good with roast beef, lamb shank or garlic chicken.
