Former wild mushroom wholesaler Bruno Duchene looks after 4 hectares of vines spread of over 4 parcels in the hills surrounding the port of Banyuls close to the Spanish border in southern Languedoc. All is strictly organic on the estate and yields are low. Fermentation is spontaneous using only naturally occurring yeasts and the wines contain no added sulphites. La Luna is 90% Grenache rouge with a splash of Carignan of which 1/3rd is lightly oaked. Although chillable, this is less like a vin de soif and more like a youthful Collioure.
A pale ruby in colour. On the nose, scents of violets and summer red fruits. On the palate, spicy and plummy with a pronounced minerality. The finish is short and the acidity well balanced. Try with spicy sausages, lamb chops or a garlicky ratatouille.
