Ribera del Duero has recently emerged from almost nowhere to challenge Rioja for the crown as Spain's greatest wine region. Once known only as the home Vega Sicilia and Tinto Pesquera, it now boasts numerous bodega of outstanding quality including Bodegas Fuentenarro. The estate is owned by the Pérez Garcia family and was founded in 2002. The winery is located in the municipality of La Horra in the heart of Ribera del Duero and the wines are from family owned vineyards. Only Tempranillo is grown on the estate, the youngest of the vineyards is 20 years old and the oldest 70 years. Production is limited and the wines are aged in a combination of French and American oak barrels. This stunning red is from 90 year old vines grown organically at over 840 metres above sea level and is aged in new French oak barrels for 18  months. Only 9'000 bottles were made.

A dark cherry-red in the glass. Scents of coffee, green herbs and vanilla. On the palate, powerful and complex with a pronounced minerality and sweet tannins. The finish is spicy and rich.  Drink with prime rib with a red wine jus, lamb burgers with a parsley aioli or Camembeso cheese from Andalucía.
