The 75 hectare, organic Bodega Cecchin comprises of 3 estates situated in the Maipu region of the Mendoza Valley of Argentina: Malbec Maipu, Ugarteche and Junín. The business was founded in 1910 by Santiago and María Cecchin who had emigrated to Argentina from Traviso in Italy. However, the estate really came to prominence in 1959 when Pedro and Jorge Cecchin finally bought the land and winery in order to make and bottle their own wines. Today the estate is run by Jorge's nephew, Alberto Cecchin who took over in 1998. This savoury Malbec is organic and contains no added sulphites.
An opaque, almost dark purple in colour. Pleasant floral aromas of violets and plums. Medium-bodied yet concentrated on the palate with ripe red fruit flavours of raspberries and redcurrants. A nice savoury edge. The tannins are discreet leading to a long finish with vanilla tinges. Try with roast loin of lamb with a rosemary jus or duck with red cabbage.
