The 60ha Bodega 40/40 is located at Ugarteche in the Mendoza Valley, Lucas Pfister, 3rd generation winemaker, who took over in 2015. The vineyards are planted almost 900 metres above sea level in an extreme continental climate with very low rainfall. This significant temperature variation between hot summer days and cool nights results in ripe grapes with complex aromas and retained acidity. Lucas’s approach is hands-off, crafting wines of unusual freshness and elegance for the region. Harvests come as early as possible to achieve higher levels of acidity and the resulting wines are savoury and subtle. The grapes for this particular Malbec come from 20 year old vines and the wine spends 2 years in old French oak before bottling.
An inky-purple in the glass. Aromas of black cherry, vanilla and coffee. On the palate, medium to full-bodied with very smooth tannins and spicy notes. Perfect with duck.
