Founded by Bepe Tosolini in the aftermath of the 2nd World War, the Cividina distillery is one of the most prestigious in Italy. It is situated at the foot of the eastern Fiulian hills and is currently run by 3rd generation distiller, Giovanni. This natural Limoncello is made using lemons from the Amalfi coast. The lemons are zested (the bitter pith is not used), steeped in neutral spirit which releases the natural oils, and then mixed with sugar syrup to make a refreshing digestif which is best served ice cold at the end of a meal. Store in the freezer!
Look out for aromas of freshly squeezed lemons (naturally) and tropical fruits. On the palate, rich lemon zest flavours combine with notes of mango and lime. The finish is pleasantly bitter with hints of green pea. Great accompaniment to Lavender shortbread or Italian nougat (Torrone). Otherwise, add to any sparkling wine for a refreshing aperitif.
