Aurelein Verdet took over the reins from his father, Alain, in 2005. Alain was an early pioneer of organic viticulture in Burgundy, having adopted the practice in 1971 and Aureleien continues the biodynamic approach to this day. There are 9 hectares of directly owned vineyards in Hautes-Côtes de Nuits in addition to vines rented under agreement in Vosne Romanée village, 1er cru Beaux Monts and 1er cru Nuits Damodes and Boudots . The grapes are harvested manually and all the cuvées are vinified the same way using only minimal sulphur and indigenous yeasts. Vinification can be lengthy - up to 30 days - but extraction is very gentle. The wines are aged in French oak barrels not exceeding 1/3 new each year. The grapes for the Nuits-Saint-Georges are sourced from the Pertuis Maréchaux vineyard, which lies in Vosne-Romanée - a region noted for its stylish Pinots. The Pertuis Maréchaux vines are planted in limestone soils resulting in a wine with an exceptionally elegant bouquet and smooth mouthfeel.
An intense garnet in colour. On the nose notes of raspberry, cinnamon and morello cherries. On the palate, full-bodied and persistent with mellow tannins and lovely length leading to a spicy finish. Try with mutton chops with creamed onions, coq au vin or Jerusalem artichokes with walnuts.
