Alta Alella was founded more than twenty years ago by oenologist Josep Maria Pujol-Busquets and his wife Cristina Guillen. It is the closest winery to Barcelona (10 km), and is located in the stunning agricultural natural park of the Serralada de Marina. The 60 hectares of vineyards are situated just two km away from the Mediterranean coast and are planted on slopes and terraces up to 250 meters above sea level. The wines fall within the Denominación de Origen Alella (the smallest D.O. in Spain) and the vines are grown on Sauló soil: an acidic, granite-based sand with low limestone content and excellent drainage. All is organic on the farm and Josep's stated aim is to produce 'transparent' wines that reflect the soil, climate and vintage characteristics. Vora la Mar (By the Sea) is 100% Pansa Blanca (the local name for Xarel.lo) and is aromatic and fresh.
A pale-golden in colour. Aromas of lemon peel and white peach with a touch of aniseed. On the palate, medium-bodied yet fresh and direct with a racy acidity and defined structure. The finish is clean making this a great food wine with a Catalan fish stew, seafood paella or cod fritters made with dried salted cod.
