The vineyards of Bodegas Honorio Rubio surround the town of Cordovín in La Rioja Alta 20km south of Haro and 30km south east of Logroño. The estate was founded in 1930 and today is run by the youthful Honorio Rubio. He looks after 15 hectares of his own vines plus a further 50 hectares of vines that are rented. The vines average 30 years in age and are planted up to 650 metres above sea level. This particular white is made from 100% Viura (a.k.a. Macabeu) - the white grape of Rioja - and is unoaked.
A pale straw-yellow in colour. On the nose scents of honey, pineapple and green apple. On the palate, fresh and light with a creamy texture. Notes of white peach and citrus. The finish is crisp and refreshing. Good food wine. Try with steamed mussels with Chorizo, paprika and garlicky croutons, smoked mackerel with a fruit pintxos of kiwi fruiut and red berries or a chunk of Double Gloucester cheese!
