Vina Albergada was founded by Jesus Blanco and Luis Rodriguez and is situated at Lanciego in the Alavesa sub-region of Rioja. Alavesa lies to the north of the River Ebro and the soils are mainly of limestone and clay, perfectly suited to the lighter style of Rioja on offer here. The estate's vineyards are located in Lanciego and Oion and only two grapes are grown: Tempranillo (95%) and Viura (5%). Over the years as the business has expanded, new concrete vats and a barrel cellar have been added thereby allowing the estate to expand and inprove its product range. This particular Tempranillo is a 'joven' or young Rioja and is unoaked. Try chilled.
A vibrant purple in colour. A very expressive nose of cherries, plums and blackcurrants. On the palate, refreshing and juicy with great acidity. Further plummy flavours of damsons and cherries. The finish is short yet fragrant. Great as an aperitif with Banderillas Tapas (green olives, gherkins, onions and pimenta). Alternatively try with queen scallops and chorizo or pan-fried garlic chicken with sundried tomatoes.
