Domaine de la Zouina is situated in the foothills of the Rif and Middle Atlas mountains near Meknes and is owned by Bordeaux winemakers, Christoph Gribelin (Chateau de Fieuzal) and Philippe Gervoson (Chateau Larrivet Haut-Brion), who came upon the business 20 years ago during a golfing holiday and decided to purchase the estate with the intention of producing premium wines from international grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Chardonnay. The wines from Zouina are marketed under the ‘Volubilia’ label and are noted for reflecting the terroir from where the vines are grown. This powerful Syrah comes from the company’s ‘Dalia Negra Madura’ vineyard situated 4000 feet above sea level at the foothills of the Atlas Mountains and spends 18 months in oak before bottling.

An intense ruby-red in colour with aromas of black berries, spice and ripe red fruits. On the palate, further peppery flavours with notes of cassis and plums with a hint of vanilla and green herbs. A clean refreshing finish. Good acidity and balanced tannins. Great with rabbit roasted with thyme, braised pork with onions or spicy sausages and mash.
