Cantine Sociale Gallura is a cooperative of 160 members covering 325 hectares of vines in the Gallura region of northern Sardinia. Gallura finds the roots of its name in the rooster emblem of the Visconti of Pisa and in 1956 the rooster was adopted by the Cantine to adorn its labels. The winery itself is to be found at Tempio at the foot of the Limbara hills and was founded at the turn of the 19th century. It originally began by producing Muscat but today produces a superb range of organic reds and whites including Cannonau and Nebbiolo. Vermentino 'Gemellae' is the cooperative's flagship wine and is the only wine on Sardinia to be awarded the DCOG classification. Made from 100% Vermentino from vines grown on limestone and granite, this excellent white has a racy minerality on the palate.
A lemon-green in colour. On the nose tell-tale aromas of basil and pine nuts with undertones of citrus and honey. On the palate, delightfully zesty with a pronounced minerality and balanced acidity. The finish is lingering and refreshing. A food-friendly crowd pleaser that should be drunk young. Try with pasta primavera, gremolata sauces, vegetable terrines or shrimp cocktails.
