Vittorio Innocenti gave up teaching philosophy a number of years ago in order to concentrate on his 32-hectare estate based at Montefollonico near Sienna in Tuscany. He is aided by his theatre-historian wife Maria-Rosa and their son Tommaso and together they produce excellent examples of the Sangiovese grape out of their 13th century cellar based in the centre of the town. This rustic and uncompromising Chianti is from the sub-region of Colli Senesi and is mainly Sangiovese with a splash of the Canaiolo Toscana grape.

A delightful ruby-red in colour with earthy scents of plum, leather and wild rose, the palate is meaty and spicy with notes of cherry and liquorice. With excellent acidity and a tart, fresh finish, this makes for a great food wine. Try with roast chicken with sage, braised celery or lasagna made with Italian sausage topped with plenty of Mozzarella cheese!
