Just 10 km outside of the ancient town of Tortona in North West Piemonte lies the Agricultural Cooperative known as "Valli Unite" which has been operating for over twenty years. Having consolidated family vineyards of the founding members, the cooperative begun wine production in the early eighties. In contrast to the post-war generation of their parents, the founders rejected 'chemical' agriculture, and went back to pre-industrial traditions of vine cultivation and winemaking, producing organic wines. With the environment in mind they also sought to limit the use of chemicals, including sulphur. Today the cooperative produces a range of sought-after wines including this excellent red - a blend of 80% Barbera with a splash each of Dolcetto and Croatina.
A light ruby in the glass. Scents of red cherries and sweet spices with gamey notes. On the palate, vibrant and fresh with a forward acidity leading to a juicy finish. Try with gnocchi in a sage and butter sauce, pasta all'Amatriciana or duck ragu.
