Domaine Didier Desvignes is situated in the hamlet of Saint-Joseph, in the heart of the Beaujolais appellation of Morgon. The Desvignes have been making wine in the region for 100 years and Didier began helping his father at the age of 11. In 1981 he purchased a few hectares of land in Saint-Joseph and began to make his own wines. The estate is named after the 13 menhirs with crosses that are dotted among the vines. The estate is farmed organically and the vines are grown on schist that contains a high proportion of iron and manganese, perfect for the Gamay grape from which this light red is made. Harvesting is carried out manually and each plot is vinified separately. This particular Morgon is from 'Les Charmes' vineyard and is raised in a combination of stainless steel tanks and cement vats. Its excellent acidity makes for a great food wine with game birds or ripe cheese.

A clear ruby-red in colour. On the nose scents of kirsch and blackberries with notes of spice and earth. The palate is light and refreshing with further red fruit flavours. The tannins are discreet and the finish short and well balanced. Altogether a bright yet subtle red. Great with rabbit in a chasseur sauce, sautéed veal with porcini mushrooms or a chunk of Camembert cheese.
