Château Saint-Ahon was acquired by the Count and Countess Bernard de Colbert in 1985. Today the wine making duties fall to their daughter and son-in-law, Francoise and Nicolas de Courcel, who took control of the 31-hectare estate in 2003. The vineyards are split into 60% Cabernet-Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. The average age of the vines is 20 years and the hallmark of the wines from the estate is the harmonious balance of tannins and acidity. This particular wine is a blend of 40% each of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with the addition of 10% each of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The wine spends 12 months in oak barrels, of which 25% is new, and will keep for a further 10 years. A complex yet elegant wine, this would pair particularly well with beef.

A delightful crimson-red in colour. Complex aromas of blackberry, morello cherry and sweet spices. On the palate, round and supple with excellent acidity. Further black fruit notes with lively yet balanced tannins lead to a lingering finish. A great Sunday lunch wine. Pair with entrecôte steak and a shallot purée, beef tournedos with wild mushrooms or pigeons aux petits pois (with green peas, baby onions and bacon).
