Ventisquero was founded by owner, Don Gonzalo Vial in 1998 and is situated in the Huasco Valley in the heart of the Atacama Desert - one of the driest regions on Earth. The first wines were released in 2001 with the Tara project commencing in 2008. These wines are the only commercial wines from the Atacama and the vines grow further north than any other winery in Chile. Due to the dry and salty soils, yields are tiny, and the strong winds that blow in from the Pacific Ocean ensure that no chemicals are needed in the vineyard. The Syrah grapes for this exceptional red are hand-harvested and following fermentation the wine is aged in oak for 24 months. No added sulphur is employed upon bottling and the wine is neither filtered nor fined.

A deep purple-red in colour. Scents of black fruits, green herbs and graphite. On the palate, complex and powerful with firm tannins and a forward acidity leading to a lengthy finish. A superb wine to accompany Chilean Estafado beef stew, Empanadas de Pino or Porotos Granados (Chilean bean stew).
