The de Martino Family have been making wine in Chile's famed Maipo Valley for over 70 years and their vineyards are situated at altitudes of up to 825m above sea level, yet only 30 miles from the Pacific Ocean. The soils are made up of clay, sand and volcanic rock which in turn imparts a very distinct character to the wines. Everything is organic at De Martino Legado; yields are low and quality control ruthless. The Legado brand showcases specific varietals from some of the best wine growing terroirs of Chile, resulting in wines that express the true character of each region. This particular red is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Malbec and is aged in French oak barrels for 14 months. Rich and spicy, it pairs particularly well with lamb dishes.
A dark inky-purple in the glass. Aromas of blackberries and cassis abound, backed by notes of tobacco and spice. Subtle hints of vanilla and mocha are also present. Full-bodied and harmonious on the palate with a long finish, the tannins are firm giving excellent ageing potential. An elegant and approachable wine, try with grilled ratatouille with a red pepper coulis and Mozzarella cheese, Moroccan lamb kabobs or quail stuffed with wild mushrooms.
